(IP)-The Armed Forces of Iran and the Defense Ministry have so far designed and produced some indigenous systems and deployed them for the air defense units.

Iran PressIran news:  Although the IRGC air defense unit is under the aerospace force, it follows the Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base and in fact, IRGC defense units are members of Iran's integrated air defense network.

Raad, meaning thunder, the air defense system is among the first attempts of IRGC's first efforts to produce air defense missiles.

The system was produced in 2012 and used in the armed forces of Iran. It works with its localized radar in coordination with other parts of the integrated air defense network.

It is an air defense system that has a portable launcher with a range of 50 kilometers and can destroy targets at an altitude of 70,000 feet.

Each rocket of the Raad system uses three air-launched missiles that target medium-altitude targets with the help of interceptor and tracer radars.

Unveiling of the Raad air defense system

The commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, said about the Raad System that its missiles are specially prepared to deal with American planes.

The system turned the head of the experts worldwide, because of its similarity to the Russian Buk-M2 missile system, but with noticeable differences that indicated the Iranized design.

This system is able to engage with one target. It was equipped with three Taer 2 missiles. The launcher of the system is a 6-wheel vehicle that has a special resemblance to the wheeled model used in the Russian Buk surface-to-air system, and it carries a set of three missiles that have two degrees of freedom in lateral and height.

Raad 1

The Raad 1 missile defense system is one of the medium-range and medium-altitude systems, which, due to its appearance and structure, can be considered as belonging to the same family as the Khordad and Tabas systems.

It can engage with various targets up to 27 km high and destroy the aggressor's targets. it is equipped with three missiles named Taer 1 with a range of 50 km and Taer 2 with a range of 105 km, as well as Sayyad 2 missile with a range of 75 km. It is capable of dealing with tactical and strategic aircraft, helicopters, and UAVs.

Raad 2

The Raad 2 missile system was unveiled for the first time during the parade of the armed forces on 22 September 2014. During the parade, the launcher, the carrier vehicle, and missiles of the Raad 2 missile system were displayed, along with Raad 1, Tabas, Sevom Khordad, Khorramshahr, etc. missile systems.

Although Raad 2, like the Raad 1 defense system, uses Taer 2 missiles, Raad 2 uses Taer 2-A missiles, but the Raad 1 missile system uses Taer 2 missiles, which shows that in the production of the Raad 2 missile system, missiles The prototype of the same system, Raad 1, has also been updated. Another point is that, like its younger brother Raad 1, the Raad 2 missile system uses a triple launcher.
