Iran Press/ Asia: After 8 pm local time on Saturday, opposition party leaders held a protest march in the capital of Bangladesh. Many cars were set on fire at different places in Dhaka.
Fire Service Public Relations Director Talha Bin Jassim said that unknown miscreants set fire to more than 30 vehicles including passenger trains, buses, and covered vans in 5 hours on Saturday night.
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habib Awal announced the schedule of the 12th National Assembly elections on Wednesday evening, November 15. After the announcement of the schedule, 36 parties, including the main opposition political party BNP and the country's main Islamic political party Jamaat-e-Islami, rejected the election schedule
Since the announcement of the polling date on January 7, 2024, the political parties have been demonstrating to demand the cancellation of the schedule.
The opposition parties will hold a 48-hour hartal from today morning in protest against the announcement of the schedule by the Election Commission and the demand to cancel the announced schedule. A large number of police, RAB and BGB members will be deployed across the country including Dhaka from Sunday morning to control law and order during the strike by opposition parties including Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP. 219
