Iran Press/Asia: Protests and sit-ins were ongoing since December 19, across the country against the unrest and road closures in Kurram district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The closure of the highway connecting Parachinar to Peshawar had severely impacted daily life, exacerbated by harsh winter conditions, snowfall, and shortages of essential supplies such as food and medicine.
Finally, on Wednesday night, it was announced that the ongoing sit-ins across the country, including Parachinar, were ended after the peace agreement was signed between the parties. With the peace agreement being signed, the Parachinar-Peshawar road will be opened soon and traffic will be restored.
Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amin Khan Gandapur called the agreement an important step to the sustainable solution to the Kurram and a clear message to the elements spreading hatred between the parties that the people of the area are peace-loving and reject any hatemongering movement.
