Masoud Pezhakian, in a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Saviev this Monday afternoon, stated that the implementation of the Rasht-Astara railway line within the framework of the FIMA agreement between Iran and Russia is a priority of our plans and we are determined to implement it, adding: "Iran is committed to the provisions of this agreement, and the Russian side can begin mapping the route and preparations for the implementation of the project as soon as possible. In accordance with the agreement, Tehran will acquire the lands of the route and submit documents and obligations in a timely manner."
The Iranian government underscores the execution of this agreement, with the country's Minister of Roads and Urban Development tasked with overseeing its implementation, as highlighted by the official.
In turn, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister, during his visit, extended warm regards from Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Prime Minister of Russia to President Pezeshkian, inviting him to visit Russia in the initial months of 2025.
Vitaly Savelyev mentioned the agreement for the construction and operation of the Rasht-Astara transit railway, highlighting his government's determination to carry out this agreement.
He stated that the Russian side has extended the required credit line for the construction and operation of the Rasht-Astara Railway, further noting, "In conjunction with collaborating with the Azerbaijani government on the International North-South corridor, Russia has urged Iran to proceed with the execution of this agreement."
The Russian deputy prime minister described the transportation of goods from Russia to Iran and vice versa as growing, stating it is expected that by implementing the Astara-Rasht railway agreement, “we will be able to reach a capacity to transport 15 million tons of goods between the two countries in the first stage.
