Iran Press/West Asia: Palestinian journalists in southern Gaza gathered in front of Nasser Hospital late on Saturday and condemned the action of the Israeli regime in the martyrdom of Journalists Tamim Muammar of Palestine TV and Abdullah al-Sousi of Al-Aqsa TV, in Khan Yunis.
Journalists also condemned the brutal crime of the Israeli regime in the attack on al-Tabin school, in the Daraj district, Gaza, and the massacre of Palestinians.
As the Gaza war began, Palestinian journalists and other media, including Al Jazeera, were targeted by the Israeli regime's attacks and martyred while covering the war news and crimes committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza.
So far, 167 journalists have been martyred in the Gaza Strip.
Journalists Deliberately Targeted
Human rights groups and media organizations have accused the Israeli military of deliberately targeting journalists to prevent reporting on the ground. The Gaza Government Media Office and other bodies have repeatedly warned that Israeli forces have been systematically killing Palestinian journalists to cover up their "crimes" in the region.
Highest Levels of Violence Against Journalists in 30 Years
The International Center for Journalists, a Washington-based NGO, has stated that the war on Gaza has seen the highest levels of violence against journalists in the past 30 years. The organization has called on Israel to immediately stop killing journalists and to investigate incidents where members of the press have died at the hands of Israeli forces.
Journalists Killed While on Assignment
Many of the journalists killed were on assignment covering the ongoing conflict. Victims include Sari Mansour, a freelance photojournalist, and Mostafa El Sawaf, a writer and analyst who contributed to the local news website MSDR News. Mohammed Abu Hatab, a journalist for Palestine TV, was killed along with 11 members of his family in an airstrike on their home in Khan Yunis.
International Condemnation and Calls for Accountability
Israel's continued bombardment of Gaza has drawn widespread international condemnation. The country stands accused of genocide by the International Court of Justice, which has ordered an immediate halt to the military operation in Rafah.
Advocates argue that Israel's serious human rights violations, including war crimes and crimes against humanity, can only be curbed through decisive action by the UN Security Council under a Chapter VII resolution.
