Cairo (IP) - Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the events in Gaza since October 2023 as one of the darkest chapters in recent history.

Iran Press/Africa: At the D-8 Special Meeting on Gaza and Lebanon held on the sidelines of the summit, Shehbaz Sharif condemned Israel's unrelenting violence that initially plagued Gaza and has now spread to the West Bank. He warned that these actions are fanning the flames of conflict that could engulf the entire region. Describing the situation as a vast human tragedy, Sharif expressed deep concern over the terrifying potential of this crisis. "Pakistan has consistently condemned Israel’s aggression against Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon and Syria in the strongest terms. Israel’s actions against the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine are equally condemnable", he noted.

Shehbaz Sharif underscored the critical role of the UNRWA for Palestine, describing it as a lifeline for millions of Palestinians impacted by Israeli actions in Gaza and the West Bank. He reaffirmed Pakistan's steadfast support for a just, comprehensive, and enduring two-state solution, in line with international law and UN Security Council resolutions, aiming to establish a viable, sovereign state within the pre-1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital. Sharif highlighted Pakistan's backing of all international mediation efforts to secure a ceasefire and called for substantial funding for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and other areas ravaged by Israeli bombings.

Shehbaz Sharif noted that Pakistan is one of the nations providing relief supplies to Palestine through Egypt and Jordan. He stressed the importance of maintaining these efforts to ensure the survival of millions affected by the conflict, urging the international community to heed the voices of the innocent people of Gaza.
