Islamabad (IP)- The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran met Pakistani Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal. In the meeting, the possible areas of cooperation regarding the upcoming visit of the Iranian President to Pakistan were discussed.

Iran PressAsia: Pakistan's Federal Minister for Planning, Ahsan Iqbal, in this meeting, said that efficient road rail transit routes are of utmost importance to promote economic cooperation. Through this, the current trade volume of $2.5 billion between the two countries can be increased manifold.

Regarding bilateral relations in the energy sector, the federal minister said that Pakistan wants to improve cooperation in this sector with Iran to end the energy crisis. The federal minister also emphasized the importance of reviving the cargo train service between Pakistan, Iran and Turkey in 2009 under ECO.

Regarding the strategic importance of the ports of Chabahar, Gwadar and Karachi for trade, the Iranian ambassador expressed his determination to connect the Chabahar port with the Zahedan railway network.

He said that long-standing brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran have been established and Iran wants more activity for its friendly country Pakistan in all other sectors including energy and trade. Regarding the expected visit of the Iranian president to Pakistan, the Iranian ambassador said that the visit of the Iranian president to Pakistan will play an important role in the strengthening of bilateral relations. 219
