Islamabad (IP)- The process of securing the Pak-Afghan border is underway after Pakistan accused Afghanistan of intrusion into the border areas and the movement of terrorist elements. 

Iran Press/Asia:  In this regard, Pakistan is working on the important project of border fencing and the work underway, under the Western Border Management Regime, is about to reach its completion.

According to Pakistani military sources, more than 98% of the work on the Pak-Afghan border under management has been completed, along with more than 91% of the work on the Pak-Iran border. This total is about 3217 kilometers.  92% of the forts have been completed to prevent the movement of terrorists on the Pak-Afghan border, while 40% of the forts on the Pak-Iran border have been completed and work on the remaining forts is in full swing.

So far, the work of fencing an area of 3100 km on the western border has been completed. During the border fencing, several Pakistan Army soldiers have sacrificed their lives as a result of cross-border firing incidents. 72% of the area in the tribal districts has been cleared of landmines as well. During this time, mines and unexploded ordinances have also been recovered. 

On the special instructions of the government, a crackdown is also underway against smuggling, electricity theft, drugs and hoarders. In this regard, after the implementation of the One Document Regime, illegal border crossings have also gradually decreased. The evacuation of illegal Afghan residents from Pakistan is also ongoing. Since September 2023, 815,000 illegal Afghan residents have returned.
