Ameer of Pakistan's Jamaat-e-Islami, Hafiz Naeem-Ur-Rehman, declared the launch of a nationwide protest in response to the ongoing situation in Palestine, particularly highlighting the Israeli regime's war on Gaza since Eid al-Fitr.

Why it matters:

Pakistani initiative will be considered a leading movement in the campaign against the U.S.-backed oppression of Gaza. The mass mobilization nature of the initiative is important.

The big picture:

Amid the new round of Israeli brutalities against the people of Gaza, new rounds of protest rallies, as announced on Sunday, will be held as of April 11 across Pakistan, especially in Lahore and Karachi. Then, on April 20, the rally will direct towards the US embassy in Islamabad.

What he's saying:

Hafiz Naeem-Ur-Rehman: "Everyone wants to please Trump, not supporting Hamas at this time and remaining silent on the ongoing oppression in Gaza is the greatest hypocritic."

"We do not need the rulers’ excuses of 'weak economy'. The economy has been weakened by those who have been imposing their rule on the people for years."

"Islamic countries have armies, weapons, and resources. Despite all this, they are watching this spectacle."

"With the patronage of the United States and the support of the European Union and Britain, global imperialism is fully backing Israeli terrorism. The conscientious class of the entire world is protesting against Zionist atrocities."

Context:

While the Islamic world celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr, Palestinian children in Gaza were left to play amidst the ruins. Israeli forces bombed the area, targeting children. The massacre persists after over 50,000 people have lost their lives in the Israeli regime's genocide in Gaza since October 2023. Women, children, UN workers, doctors, paramedics, journalists, and countless others continue to be targeted.
