Nigeria (IP) - Hundreds of thousands of followers of Ahlulbayt in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria symbolically observed the annual Arbaeen March in commemoration of the 40th day of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (a) and the sufferings of Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) household.

Iran Press/Africa: On Saturday, the group of Arbaeen marchers were divided into two groups, one started the trek from Masaka to Maraban Abuja, while the other group began the march from Suleja, a suburb of Abuja, holding flags of Imam Hussain (a) and Palestine, carrying banners indicating the essence of the rituals, and chanting elegies.

After the symbolic march was observed peacefully, Sheikh Muhammad Abbari, the representative of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky in Gombe State, delivered a closing speech.

The Arbaeen, or the 40 days after Ashura, commemorates the martyrdom of Prophet Mohammed's grandson, Imam Hussain, who was martyred by the army of Yazid I in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD on the 10th day of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.
