Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared in Tel Aviv Central Court to answer the charges against him.

Benjamin Netanyahu has become the first sitting Israeli prime minister to appear in court as a criminal defendant, more than four years after his trial on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust began.

The 75-year-old maintains his innocence, arguing that the three separate cases against him are politically motivated. 

Prosecutors accuse Netanyahu of granting regulatory favours worth around 1.8 billion shekels (about $500 million) to Bezeq Telecom Israel (BEZQ.TA) in return for positive coverage of himself and his wife Sara on a news website controlled by the company's former chairman.
