Iran Press/ Middle East: Netanyahu underwent a pacemaker implantation operation at the Sheba Center of Tel Hashomer Hospital overnight, Netanyahu’s office said late on Saturday night.
Some news sources speculate that Netanyahu was admitted to the hospital and undergone heart surgery for an acute and emergency condition.
In a brief videotaped statement released at 2 a.m., Netanyahu said he had been fitted with a monitoring device after being briefly hospitalized last week for what his office had said was dehydration. He said an alarm on the device beeped Saturday night, meaning he needed a pacemaker immediately.
Netanyahu, 73, who complained of dizziness, was released from the Sheba Medical Center hospital last Sunday after having a heart monitoring device implanted.
A top deputy, Justice Minister Yariv Levin, is standing in for him. Levin is the mastermind of the overhaul plan.
Netanyahu's office made the announcement as he faces widespread street protests over a contentious judicial overhaul plan.
Tens of thousands of protesters marched into the occupied Jerusalem al Quds on Saturday evening and hundreds of thousands of angry protesters took to the streets in Tel Aviv and other cities in a last-ditch show of force aimed at blocking Netanyahu’s contentious judicial overhaul.
Also Saturday, more than 100 of the Zionist regime's former security chiefs signed a letter pleading with Netanyahu to halt the legislation, and thousands of additional military reservists said they would no longer report for duty, in a protest against the plan.
Netanyahu and his far-right allies claim the overhaul is needed to curb what they say are the excessive powers of unelected judges. But their critics say the plan will destroy the Zionist entity’s system of checks and balances and put it on the path toward authoritarian rule.
