Iran Press/America: Minnesota Muslim Democrat Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has said nobody could silence her, after violent attacks from US President Donald Trump and other Republicans, ABC News reported.
US President on Friday tweeted out an edited video that used comments Omar made at the Council on American-Islamic Relations last month spliced with news footage of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Omar, who came to the US from Somalia as a refugee and became one of the first Muslim women in Congress, thanked supporters for standing 'against an administration that ran on banning Muslims from this country.'
"No one person – no matter how corrupt, inept, or vicious – can threaten my unwavering love for America," she wrote on Twitter. "I stand undeterred to continue fighting for equal opportunity in our pursuit of happiness for all Americans."
In the hours after Trump attacked Omar, top Democrats in the US Congress strongly condemned Trump and other Republicans for attacking Omar over comments she made that seemingly minimized the 9/11 attacks, which were a series of strikes in the US that killed nearly 3,000 people and caused about $10 billion worth of property and infrastructure damage.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi admonished President Donald Trump for using video of 9/11 to criticize Rep. Ilhan Omar's remarks she made referencing the terrorist attacks as 'some people did something.'
"The memory of 9/11 is sacred ground, and any discussion of it must be done with reverence. The President shouldn't use the painful images of 9/11 for a political attack," Pelosi said on Saturday.
Several 2020 Democratic presidential candidates also condemned Trump's tweet.
"Someone has already been charged with a serious threat on Congresswoman Omar's life. The video the President chose to send out today will only incite more hate," Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar said.
Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren accused Trump 'of inciting violence against a sitting congresswoman — and an entire group of Americans based on their religion'.
Rashida Tlaib, the other Muslim American woman in Congress, was the first on Friday who urged Democrats to 'speak up' for Omar.
It’s no wonder that so many people, some from her own party, want to shut Ilhan Omar up. She has a lot to say and she says it. 103/211/209
