Iran Press/America: Special counsel Robert Mueller spoke to public on Russia probe after a two year silence on Wednesday.
On the issue of obstruction, Mueller emphasized that Justice Department policy prohibits the indictment of a sitting president. “That is unconstitutional,” he said according to CNN.
Mueller closed his brief, but long-awaited, remarks with a reminder about what got him appointed in the first place.
He left the podium without taking questions.
Mueller announced that the special counsel’s office is closing and he is resigning from the Department of Justice. Special counsel also said he has little interest in testifying in front of Congress.
Mueller, a former FBI director, had been examining since May 2017 whether Trump’s election campaign colluded with Moscow to try to influence the 2016 presidential election and whether the Republican president later unlawfully tried to obstruct his investigation.
