Iran Press/Asia: Torrential rains and resulting landslides have led to severe damage across the country, with rising river and canal levels threatening further flooding in the coming days.
The casualties include 121 children and 48 women, underscoring the vulnerability of families in the affected regions. In addition to the tragic loss of life, more than 1,000 houses have been completely destroyed, and over 3,500 have suffered partial damage.
One of the most harrowing incidents occurred in the Dirbala area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where a landslide buried a residence, killing twelve members of the same family, including nine children, two women, and one man.
The flooding in the Mach area of Balochistan has caused significant infrastructure damage, sweeping away railway lines and a gas pipeline. This has led to a suspension of gas supplies to several cities, including Quetta, the provincial capital.
Balochistan has been particularly hard-hit, with ten districts declared disaster zones. Crude houses have collapsed, land routes between cities have been severed, and numerous roads and bridges have been washed away by the relentless rains.
In Sindh, early reports on Sunday morning indicated that seven children were missing in the city of Dadu. Tragically, they were later confirmed to have been swept away by the heavy floodwaters.
In many affected areas, people are taking refuge under the open sky after floodwaters inundated their homes. These displaced families are facing acute food shortages, and there are urgent calls for relief teams to transport victims to safer locations to prevent the outbreak of epidemics. Addressing malnutrition and providing adequate diet are also critical needs at this time.
