The Iraqi National Intelligence Service has announced the arrest of Abdul Nasser Qardash, the possible successor to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the former chief of the ISIS terrorist group in the country.

Iran Press/Middle East: Iraq's National Intelligence Service late on Wednesday announced it had arrested a possible successor to ISIS chief Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi.

The Iraqi National Intelligence Agency said in a statement that the arrests were based on accurate intelligence.

Al-Baghdadi was killed on October 26, 2019, in a US operation in the Syrian city of Idlib.

Qardash is reported to be an Iraqi of Turkmen origin from the Telafar region near the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

Some news outlets in the region say Qardash is the highest-ranking Islamic State officer to ever be taken into custody.

This is while al-Hashd al-Shabi forces have carried out more than 50 large and small operations against ISIS in the occupied provinces since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, and according to the organization's officials, the operation will continue until the terrorists are eliminated and pushed back.
