Damascus (IP) - Iranian Foreign Minister said on Monday that the United States has revealed its real intentions in dealing with the coronavirus by not lifting harsh sanctions on nations while the nations are fighting in the virus.

Iran Press/Middle EastMohammad Javad Zarif, in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus, also referred to a Sunday phone call from the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Otto Pedersen, and the upcoming consultations between Iran, Turkey, and Syria, as guarantors of the Astana process.

Iran's top diplomat discussed with the Syrian President the latest developments in Syria, including the Constitutional Committee, and the Idlib developments.

At the beginning of the meeting, Bashar al-Assad expressed his condolences to Iran on behalf of the Syrian government and people for the losses caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Referring to the martyrdom of Lt. Gen. Qasem Soleimani, the Syrian President also mentioned his unique role in the fight against terrorism in Syria and praised his support for the Syrian people in the fight against terrorism.

Zarif also praised the participation of Syrian representatives in Iran for the mourning ceremony of martyred Soleimani.

In the continuation of his meeting with Syrian officials, Zarif also met with his Syrian counterpart, Walid al-Muallem, in which the two sides discussed the developments in Syria, the fight against terrorism and regional issues.
