Iraq files complaint to UNSC over US

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs files complaint to the UN Security Council over the US bombing of the Iraqi army and military forces’ bases.

Iran PressMiddle East: Tuesday, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry filed a letter of a formal complaint to the UN Security Council against the US recent attacks, particularly the one targeting Karbala International Airport.

In a letter to the UN’s agency Iraq, the secretariat of the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) called for a delegation to visit and document the US air raid at Karbala International Airport.

The secretariat stressed in the letter that the airport, targeted by the US’ blatant violations of Iraqi sovereignty, is for civilian purposes to serve the city of Karbala, where there are no weapons or military equipment contrary to the US claims.

The US military presence in Iraq has become a hot-button issue in the country since a US drone bombed and assassinated Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani Iran's top counter-terrorism commander and PMF leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis near Baghdad international airport on Friday 3 January 2020.
