Tighter security measures in place in Karbala, Iraq.

Iraqi police and security forces in Karbala have confirmed that tight security measures and beefed-up police presence in Karbala are meant to deter rioters and vandals and protect the lives of civilians and pilgrims. The new more stringent security measures were introduced on Sunday night.

Karbala residents rallied in front of main court building in the city and have been demanding more action against those who damage public and private property. The demonstrators urged police to identify and arrest the rioters as soon as possible, Iran Press reported.

Some Iraqi provinces, including Karbala, have faced protests relating to inadequate public services, lack of job opportunities particularly for young people, and corruption, but protests have turned violent in recent days and dozens have been killed or injured.

The Hezbollah movement in Iraq has recently announced that United States and the Zionist regime are fueling and supporting the recent unrest in Iraq, aiming for regime change in Baghdad.

Basra provincial police chief reiterated that the Israeli regime, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates are collaborating to disrupt peace and stability in Iraq and to foment unrest.  207/211/209
