Iran, Saudi Arabia sign agreement for 2020 Hajj season

An agreement for the 2020 Hajj season was signed between the Head of Iran's Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization and Saudi Arabia's Minister of Hajj and Umrah.

Iran PressMiddle East: Alireza Rashidian, head of Iran's Hajj and pilgrimage organization, who has traveled to Saudi Arabia, after signing the agreement for 2020 Hajj season on Sunday said that he in a conversation with Saudi Arabia's Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Mohammad Saleh bin Taher Benten has emphasized the dignity, security, and safety of Iranian pilgrims.

Developing and strengthening bilateral coordination and interactions in order to facilitate executive affairs and provide better services to pilgrims in various sectors, including transport and accommodation, are among other topics discussed with the Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah.

The Head of Iran's Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization also referred to the problems made for Iranian pilgrims' accommodation in recent years in Medina, adding: "The Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah was told that Iranian investors are ready to participate in the construction of suitable hotels in Medina."

Rashidian further said that the meeting was also focused on achieving the rights of Mina martyrs.

On 24 September 2015, thousands of pilgrims, including 464 Iranian were killed during the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Mina, Mecca due to mismanagement of Saudi officials. The high number of deaths caused by the disaster makes it the deadliest Hajj disaster in history. 207
