The Prime Minister of Malaysia said that the Islamic Republic of Iran's unprecedented retaliatory missile and drone attack on Israel on Saturday night was legitimate and within the framework of self-defense.

Iran PressAsia: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Monday that Iran's unprecedented missile and drone attack on Israel two days ago was "legitimate".

The leader of Muslim-majority Malaysia urged the Israel regime not to take any further retaliation that would aggravate tensions in the West Asia region.

In his statement, referring to the deadly Israeli strike on Tehran's consulate in the Syrian capital, Anwar said: "The launching of the drones by Iran is a legitimate act following the barbarous attack by the Israeli Zionist regime against the Iranian embassy in Damascus,"

The statement was issued after Anwar chaired a meeting of Malaysia's National Security Council to discuss raising tensions in West Asia.

On 1 April 2024, an Israeli airstrike destroyed the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, killing 16 people, including a senior Quds Force commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, a senior commander along with six other IRGC officers. Six Syrian civilians also were killed in the attack. 219
