Following US President Biden's statement, Lebanon's Prime Minister Najib Mikati welcoming the truce deal thanked the United States and France.

Iran Press/West Asia: A statement came moments after Biden concluded a speech announcing the cessation of hostilities would come into effect at 4 am local time (02:00 GMT) on Wednesday.

"The understanding, which outlined a roadmap for a ceasefire, was reviewed this evening. It represents a fundamental step toward establishing calm and stability in Lebanon," Mikati said.

Mikati also emphasized that the understanding ensures the return of displaced people to their homes.

A ceasefire to end hostilities between Israel and Lebanon will protect Israel from the threat of Hezbollah and create the conditions for a “lasting calm”, US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron said in a joint statement.

“The announcement today will cease the fighting in Lebanon, and secure Israel from the threat of Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations operating from Lebanon,” the two leaders said, adding that the deal “will create the conditions to restore lasting calm”.

The US and France will work “to ensure this arrangement is fully implemented” and lead international efforts for “capacity-building” of the Lebanese army, they added.

Israel attacks Beirut moments after Biden confirms ceasefire deal

Israeli air strikes shook Beirut moments after US President Biden said Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to a ceasefire deal.

The attacks targeted an apartment in the Khandaq al Ghamiq area of Beirut, reported MTV Lebanon News.

In a televised address, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, “Tonight, I will present the Cabinet with the framework of a cease-fire agreement with Lebanon.” He noted that the cease-fire’s duration would depend on developments in Lebanon, hinting that it may be a temporary truce rather than a permanent agreement.
