Iran Press/ Middle East: Today, Wednesday, June 14, 2023, the Lebanese Parliament failed for the 12th time to elect a president for the country.
Despite holding 12 consecutive sessions to elect a president, the parliament has so far failed to appoint a substitute for the former president Mishel Aoun whose term ended last October.
Ayoub Hamid told Iran Press correspondent in Lebanon that the 12th session of the presidential election in the parliament ended without any agreement due to intense political differences.
"If the political groups, had fulfilled the request of Nabih Berri, the Lebanese parliament's speaker, and had undertaken national consultation and dialogue, a lot of time and money would have not been avoided," Hamid added.
He stressed that today all parties must adopt dialogue and consultation in favor of the national interests, including the presidential election issue.
Still, a member of the Lebanese Parliament's Social-Democrat Party Halima Qaqour told Iran Press: "The Lebanese politicians have undermined the institutions from the inside and brought the country to a shutdown; If they reach a consensus, the solution to the problems will be found."
The Parliament of Lebanon has 128 members, and according to the country's constitution, the quorum for voting on any issue is 85 MPs.
