Tehran (IP) - Japan’s Foreign Minister said his country intends to donate the anti-influenza medicine Avigan or the so-called Favipiravir to 20 countries including Iran.

Iran PressAsia: In a press conference in Tokyo on Tuesday, Toshimitsu Motegi said Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Indonesia, Iran, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey are among the 20 countries receiving the drug, which is currently undergoing clinical tests.

Noting that 30 other countries want to receive the drug, he expressed his hope that it could be used to treat patients with the coronavirus.

Japan provides the UN with $ 1 billion in financial aid to buy and distribute Avigan made in the country.

The Japanese foreign minister added that his country would work with interested countries to expand clinical research on Avigan, internationally.

Researchers at the University of Wuhan, Coronavirus outbreak origin in China, and other Chinese institutions say the drug is effective in treating corona-infected patients, especially for people with mild symptoms.
