Tehran (IP) - The Italian Embassy in Tehran unveiled the sixth edition of "Domus Design - Tehran 2022" international exhibition, as part of its celebrations of Italian Design Day, an initiative promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the network of Italian Embassies abroad.

Iran PressIran News: The exhibition, set up in the Qajar complex of the Italian Ambassador’s residence in Tehran, draws inspiration from the historic design exhibits organized by Domus magazine in the 1960s and 1970s and, specifically, from its 1975 edition, which took place in Tehran.

“Domus Design – Tehran 2022” is divided into two sections.

The first one, set up in the premises of the evocative Qajar "harem" building, offers an in-depth look at the main stages of Italian and Iranian design history. Iconic objects are showcased, which were featured by Domus magazine over the last few decades, created by Italian top designers, such as Gaetano Pesce, Alessandro Mendini, Enzo Mari, Ettore Sottsass, and Michele De Lucchi.

Alongside them, unique Iranian pieces are equally on show, such as the Mashhad Engineering Company’s building maquette by Alireza Taghaboni, an iron and mirrored glass entrance piece named “Pass” by Sara Kalantari, or the Zoomorphic dining suite in flaming red color “The Guardians” by Kamran Ashraf Naderi.

The second section of the exhibition, set up in the "Conference Hall" or “biruni” building, is dedicated to Gio Ponti's impressive Villa Nemazee project in Tehran.

The installation aims to recreate the interiors and living space of the villa, through the original drawings by Gio Ponti made available by “Salvatore Licitra - Gio Ponti Archives,” the imposing “Pavone” chandelier in brass and opaline glass, designed by the Italian architect for the villa’s central hall, as well as other pieces of furniture and decoration designed by Ponti throughout his career.

"This exhibition in Tehran has a double meaning,” Italian Ambassador to Tehran Giuseppe Perrone stated during the inauguration event in his residence garden.

“On the one hand, it recalls the important experience of Italian architects and designers in Iran and their far reaching and often times groundbreaking projects. On the other hand, it showcases the enduring creativity of Iranian architects and designers whose work and talent have been continuously featured by Domus magazine over the years,” Perrone added.

The episode dedicated to Gio Ponti's Villa Nemazee of the video series "Domus Eyes on Iran," produced by the Italian Embassy in Tehran, was also screened for the public.
