Iran Press/Africa: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press in Abuja, Senator Shehu Sani who is also the President of the Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria (CRCN), said: "What is happening in the Middle East now is not simply about human rights, it is about humanity. This is the first time in the history of the world that such a tragedy perpetrated in the form of a massacre has been going unchallenged and unrestrained, especially by nations that portray themselves as the powers and superpowers of freedom and democracy in the world. The killings of innocent people in Gaza and now in Lebanon are a disaster that will continue to hunt the whole of humanity."
"What we have seen in Beirut is a clear example of how the world has failed to address the problems of Palestine and Israel. It has also shown the docility, the inefficacy, and the uselessness of the United Nations," the human rights activist emphasizes.
Senator Shehu Sani highlighted that the Israeli genocide in Lebanon demonstrates the level of evil and cruelty that have become dominant in the global political and diplomatic scene today.
"How can we watch this happen in our lifetime before our very eyes in this 21st century? Hundreds of years to come, the future generations of people of the world will question how nations of the world that portrayed themselves as champions of freedom and democracy, as champions of protection for fundamental rights and right to life would fold their arms and see this kind of genocide and massacre. It is condemnable. The world must not surrender to the antic of Netanyahu."
While answering the question by Iran Press correspondent on how the African Union could help to stop Israeli cruelty to humanity, Senator Shehu Sani cited an example with the stand made by the Nigerian Government on Tuesday at the 79th United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York, in which the Vice-president Kashim Shetima said Nigeria is opposed to the Israeli massacre in Gaza, and also added that Palestinians deserve to have a home of their own on territories already recognized by the United Nations Assembly and by the International law which is being routinely ignored.
The Nigerian Senator said the killings of over forty thousand Palestinians by Israel are disproportionate.
" There can't be a self-defense where you massacre such a large number of people in the name of self-defense. This is the first time we are seeing this impunity at such a large scale and at such a global level for which powers of the world have proved to be helpless. If we don't end this killing in Gaza and these killings in Lebanon, we are heading to a global war that is going to be far beyond the borders of the Middle East," he warned. 204
