IP - At least 81 Palestinians waiting for food aid were killed and 250 wounded after Israeli troops opened fire on a huge crowd of people waiting for food aid southwest of Gaza City, as the besieged enclave faces an unprecedented hunger crisis.

Iran Press/ West Asia: Gaza’s government media office, in a statement on Thursday said that the Israeli army was “committing a horrific massacre”. More than 81people were killed and about 250 others were wounded, it said .

The people had congregated at al-Rashid Street, where aid trucks carrying flour were believed to be on the way.

“The majority of the victims suffered gunshots and shrapnel in the head and upper parts of their bodies. They were hit by direct artillery shelling, drone missiles, and gun firing,” Jadallah Al-Shafei, the head of the nurse's department at al-Shifa Hospital told Al Jazeera.

The mass shooting was the latest instance of systematic attacks on hungry people waiting for scraps of food. Over the past few days, Palestinians waiting for aid trucks on Salah al-Din Street near Gaza City have been shot at by Israeli forces.

According to Carl Skau, deputy executive director of the World Food Programme (WFP), told the United Nations Security Council more than 500,000, or one in four people, were at risk of famine, with one child in every six below the age of two considered acutely malnourished.

Israeli air strikes and shelling have killed at least 30 people in separate attacks in the Nuseirat, Bureij, and Khan Younis camps in Gaza.

As the death toll from this morning’s attack on Palestinian aid-seekers in Gaza mounts, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry has condemned what it says was a cold-blooded “massacre” of civilians.

The Palestinian death toll in the Gaza Strip from ongoing Israeli attacks has exceeded 30,000, Palestinian medical sources said on Thursday.

According to Palestinian medical sources said that the casualties have risen to more than 30,000 deaths and more than 70,000 injuries since the Israel-Hamas conflict broke out on Oct. 7, 2023.

People in Gaza faced a very tragic situation. The very truck that carried the aid turned into an ambulance. It carried the bodies of those who were killed and transferred them to al-Shifa Hospital.
