Why it matters:
Rising negative attitudes toward Israel, spanning age groups and political affiliations (including Republicans and Democrats), coupled with U.S. aid to Israel, may fuel ongoing protests originating from American universities.
The big picture:
A nationally representative survey of 3,605 adults in the U.S. was conducted by the Pew Research Center between March 24 and March 30.
The reports by the Pew Research Center and Gallup are “gold standard” studies, based on many years of data collection, and testify to Israel’s rapidly deteriorating standing in the U.S. public.
By the numbers:
Pew Center's survey shows:
- 53% of Americans have a very or somewhat unfavorable view of Israel
- Highly unfavorable views toward Israel have doubled from 10% in 2022 to 19% in 2025.
Gallup's survey from last month says:
- The importance of Israel-Hamas has been declining from 75% in 2024 compared to 66% in 2025.
- Only 32% of Americans believe Netanyahu will “do the right thing in world affairs.”
