The text of the announcement is as follows:
After more than 10 days of silence and negligence of international organizations, especially the United Nations Security Council, to condemn the aggression of the Zionist regime in attacking the consular section of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus as part of our country's soil and martyring 7 advisers and the non-punishment of the criminal regime under the Article 7 of the United Nations Charter; the forces of the IRGC, in response to these crimes and fulfilling the previous warnings and in order to punish the aggressor, using its strategic intelligence, missiles and drones capabilities, attacked the important military targets of the Zionist terrorist army in the occupied territories and successfully hit and destroyed them.
Following the strategic policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the IRGC announces:
1. The terrorist US Administration is warned that any support and participation in hitting Iran's interests will result in a decisive and regretful response from the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Also, the US is responsible for the evil actions of the Zionist regime, and if this child-killing regime is not curbed in the region, it must accept its consequences.
2. While emphasizing the policy of good neighborliness with the neighbors and countries of the region, it is stated that any threat by the terrorist state of America and the Zionist regime from the origin of any country will be followed by a reciprocal and proportional response of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the origin of the threat.
We assure the heroic nation of Iran that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other armed forces of the country will stand in defense of national interests and will neutralize the enemies' efforts to disrupt the security and calm of the people.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a retaliatory strike on multiple locations in Israel, in response to Israeli terrorist attack on Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria on 1 April 2024.
On 1 April 2024, an Israeli airstrike destroyed the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, killing 16 people, including a senior Quds Force commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, a senior commander along with six other IRGC officers. Six Syrian civilians also were killed in the attack.
As diplomatic buildings are entitled to further protections from attack or other interference by the host country under international customary law, codified in the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1963 Convention on Consular Relations, Iranian forces have launched a calculated strike against Israeli targets, signaling their resolve to defend Iranian territory and retaliate against perceived aggression.
When they attack our consulate, it is as if they have attacked our soil,” Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said in a speech marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan on Wednesday.
