The Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Hossein Salami, asserted that Iran has maintained the safety of its shipping lines despite facing international sanctions.

Iran Press/Iran News: During a meeting with President Masoud Pezeshkian at the Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters, Salami reported that 14 Iranian ships were attacked in the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea to hinder Iran's oil exports.

"Initially, we were uncertain about the identity of the party targeting our ships. After some time, we ascertained that it was Israel," Salami stated. "As a result, we decided to launch an attack on 12 of its ships. However, when we targeted the fifth ship, they requested that we cease targeting their vessels."
Salami explained the hostility aimed at preventing the export of Iranian oil, noting, "Two of our ships were seized in Greece. In turn, we seized two ships. We also managed to shoot down an advanced American drone."
He emphasized the IRGC's role in deterrence operations to address threats from various directions, asserting, "As the first task in naval battles, we completely secured our shipping lines."

Iran's Oil Exports and Sanctions

Iran's oil exports have been a focal point of international sanctions, particularly since the U.S. withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018 and reimposed stringent sanctions on the Iranian economy. Despite these challenges, Iran has managed to sustain significant oil exports, primarily to countries like China, which have continued to purchase Iranian crude.
