Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, referring to the presence of more than six million Afghan refugees in Iran, called for the international community's support for Tehran in this regard.

Iran Press/America: Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, on Thursday at a Security Council meeting on Afghanistan stated that more than six million Afghan refugees have taken refuge in Iran, which has put a great strain on Iran's limited resources. He added: "The Islamic Republic of Iran spends more than $10 billion annually to meet the needs of Afghan refugees, but this time it has not received sufficient support from the international community."

Iravani added: "Iran, as a neighbor, has borne a disproportionate share of the burden of the Afghan crisis, especially after the reckless US withdrawal in late August 2021."

After 20 years of occupation and committing numerous crimes, the US occupying forces finally withdrew from Afghanistan in disgrace and defeat in late August 2021, and the consequences of this occupation are still felt in the country. 219
