Tehran (IP) - The Iranian Acting Foreign Minister says voter turnout abroad in the run-off of the Iranian presidential elections is higher than the first round last Friday.

Iran PressIran news: Ali Bagheri Kani told reporters on Friday in an interview that the only country that banned the election for Iranians was Canada.

He noted that Canada introduced itself as an advocate of human rights, but it stood against the Iranians living in Canada and did not allow them to decide for their country by not letting elections be held.

Bagheri Kani said: "Canada is the very country that a few days ago made a firm pact with terrorists to support them." 

He expressed hope that the polls could be a strong support for the progress of the Iranian nation and that another new chapter of Islamic democracy would be opened in the history of the Islamic Republic. 

The first round of the Iranian 14th presidential election was held on Friday, June 28, 2024, and reached a run-off with Masoud Pezeshkian and Saeed Jalili; the run-off will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has held 5 nationwide elections just in 2024 within short periods; two rounds of parliamentary elections, an election of the Assembly of Experts, and the 14th presidential elections the run-off of which is underway on Friday, July 5, 2024.
