Iran Press/Iran news: The mission included high-level meetings and the signing of multiple agreements aimed at boosting collaboration in telecommunications, fiber optics production, postal services, and technology parks.
On October 31, Hashemi, leading a delegation, began his trip in Venezuela, meeting with officials including the Ministers of Communications, Electricity, Science, and Transport. Together, they signed agreements to expand collaboration between Tehran and Caracas in telecommunications, scientific research, and advanced technologies.
In meetings with Jorge Marquez, Venezuela’s Minister of Electricity and head of the National Telecommunications Company (Conatel), Hashemi praised Venezuela’s openness to partnerships with Iranian firms. He emphasized that the Iranian companies involved are industry leaders capable of supporting Venezuela’s telecom and technological development.
In his final discussions in Venezuela, Hashemi met with the governor of La Guaira, highlighting the potential of the upcoming technology park in the region. This park, he noted, would establish La Guaira as an export hub to Caribbean countries. Following this, a $10 million investment deal was signed between Iranian private investors and La Guaira authorities for the construction of a fiber optic manufacturing facility.
Hashemi then traveled to Havana, where he met with Eduardo Martínez, Cuba’s Prime Minister, as well as the Deputy Prime Minister. The talks focused on expanding scientific and technological partnerships, and both nations signed a memorandum for postal service cooperation. Hashemi offered Iranian expertise in various fields, particularly artificial intelligence, stating Iran’s readiness to share its technological advancements with Cuba.
Martínez acknowledged Iran’s substantial progress in science and technology and expressed interest in increased collaboration, especially in telecommunications, postal services, and AI. Hashemi also visited Cuba’s Mariel Science and Technology Park and Special Economic Zone, pledging educational support in communications, robotics, and AI.
On his final day, Hashemi toured the Iranian pavilion at Havana’s 40th International Trade Fair, meeting with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez. The two discussed future bilateral initiatives, particularly in ICT.
The visit underscores Iran’s commitment to its century-long relationship with Latin American countries, reinforcing its role in the region’s technological and infrastructural development.
