Iranian Foreign Minister sat down with Lebanon’s Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on the margins of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos Switzerland.

Iran Press/ West Asia: In this meeting, Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian conveyed senior Iranian officials’ greetings to Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, stating that Iran attaches great importance to the enhancement of relations and cooperation with Lebanon in different bilateral, and regional and international areas.

The top Iranian diplomat underlined Lebanon’s important role in regional issues, adding: “Lebanon’s stability and security impacts stability and security in the entire region, and the Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported the reinforcement of stability and security in Lebanon.”

Iran’s top diplomat lauded the Lebanese government, people and resistance movement for their role in supporting the Palestinian nation, adding, “Unfortunately, under the US support for the Zionist regime, the war against Gaza still goes on, and we are witnessing the continuation of the killing of Palestinian residents, namely women and children, and the Zionist regime’s genocide against Palestinians.”

Amir-Abdollahian touched upon the United States’ current efforts to plan the way Gaza should be ruled in the post-war era, adding, “No one has the right to impose anything on the Palestinian nation, and it is only Palestinians themselves that should decide about how affairs in Gaza and the West Bank should be ruled.”

Mikati, in turn, conveyed his greetings to ranking Iranian authorities while underscoring the importance of constructive cooperation and relations between Iran and Lebanon on different fronts.

Lebanese Prime Minister pointed to the complexity of the regional issues, namely the issue of Palestine, welcoming the continuation of joint consultations with Iran.

He stressed the need to end the Israeli regime’s war against Gaza and described the situation in Palestine and the whole region as worrying.

He said political efforts to end the war on Gaza should be stepped up.

In the meeting, the two sides also discussed the latest developments in Palestine and Lebanon along with the situation in the Red  Sea, underlining the need to continue joint consultations to put an end to the Israeli regime’s crimes against Palestinians, open up corridors to send humanitarian aid to Gaza and help establish tranquility and stability in the region. 219
