Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amirabdollahian has been welcomed by his Pakistani counterpart Jalil Abbas Jilani at the start of an official visit to the country.

The official welcome ceremony for Amirabdollahian and his high-ranking delegation took place on Monday morning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan in the capital Islamabad.

Following the official ceremony, the two foreign ministers kicked off negotiations in which diplomatic delegations from Iran and Pakistan held talks on issues of mutual interest.

The Iranian foreign minister is on his second trip to Pakistan this year.

The visit comes after Iran and Pakistan announced in a joint statement on January 22 that their respective ambassadors will return to their posts following brief tensions caused by cross-border missile strikes against hideouts of terrorists in the two countries earlier this month.

The fight against terrorism and bilateral issues will be on the agenda of the negotiations during the trip.

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian will consult with the Pakistani authorities in the light of neighborly, fraternal, and friendly relations between the two countries.

It is expected that negotiations cover cooperation between the two countries in the commercial, industrial, scientific, and academic fields, as well as security and energy.
