Tehran (IP)- Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development praised indigenous engineers' task making commuting Tehran-Shomal much easier as they were replaced five years ago after foreign contractors were expelled from the project making the progress from 18% to 100%.

Iran Press/Iran news: At the beginning of the ceremony, Parviz Fattah, the head of the Mostazafan Foundation and Mohammad Eslami Minister of Roads and Urban Development, delivered their speech.

Mohammad Eslami Minister of Roads and Urban Development by praising the government's support of the project said that commuting to the North of Iran was tough but now this freeway has made it easier and faster to do so.

"50 percent of the investment has been undertaken by the government which managed it perfectly well beyond its duty and 50 percent met by the Foundation. We all hope to continue the rest of the project at least half of it during this government in office." Eslami underscored.

"It also shortens the way, and 85 million liter fuels are lessened per year. We are also trying to remove the danger and property damage in the villages. 732 KM highways have been added to the country during the current government", the minister highlighted.

Fatah said at the beginning of Rohani's government 17% of the project was completed but now it has been completed thoroughly.

The Tehran-North Freeway is perhaps one of the most notorious projects in Iran, as it is above 20 years in under the construction. It also is a mega project consists of four phases spanning 121 km in total.

The phases 2 and 3 of the freeway, with 30 percent of physical development, are still under construction. These two phases pass through mountainous terrain, are not easily accessible and will take longer to complete.

The phase -4, which is 20 kilometers long and connects Marzanabad in Kelardasht District to Chalous (both in Mazandaran), was inaugurated in March 2014.
