Iran Press/ Iran News: Iranian representatives had not exceeded more than 14 disciplines in the previous Olympics, but they won quotas in 16 fields for the first time in Tokyo.
These 68 quotas were earned in 14 individual disciplines: athletics, shooting, wrestling, karate, fencing, table tennis, boxing, boating, weightlifting, swimming, badminton, cycling, archery, and taekwondo, and two volleyball and basketball team disciplines.
Despite the coronavirus outbreak and its negative impact on preparing for more quotas, Iran managed to get 68 quotas. Eventually, it moved to Tokyo with 67 quotas, and one quota was lost due to Bahman Asgari doping in karate.
The Iranian sport squad will leave for Tokyo with 56 male and 11 female athletes.
The 32nd Olympic Games begin on July 23 in Tokyo.
