Iran Press/America: Iran's Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani accused the Troika of ignoring their own persistent breaches of the JCPOA while unfairly targeting Iran. The letter emphasized that Tehran remains committed to the nuclear deal and has acted within its legal rights in response to external provocations and non-compliance by other parties. He stated that any attempts to activate the "snapback mechanism" of sanctions would face a firm and decisive Iranian response.
The letter highlights the origin of the JCPOA crisis as the unilateral withdrawal of the United States in May 2018. This withdrawal, compounded by the Troika and the European Union’s failure to mitigate the resulting damage or uphold their commitments, has eroded the agreement. Iran also criticized the imposition of sanctions that contradict the principles of Resolution 2231 and undermine the objectives of the JCPOA.
Iran Criticizes Sanctions and Defends Retaliatory Actions
The Iranian letter further condemned the Troika’s interpretation of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reports, arguing that it misrepresents Iran’s compliance and overlooks Tehran’s extensive cooperation despite external pressures. The letter noted that Iran has subjected itself to some of the strictest verification measures but has been forced to take reversible compensatory steps due to violations by other parties.
Iran also took issue with the Troika’s failure to lift sanctions on the "Transition Day" in October 2023, instead imposing additional restrictions under questionable pretexts in 2024. Tehran deemed these actions a clear violation of the JCPOA and Resolution 2231, rejecting the Troika’s claim that the sanctions were independent of the nuclear deal.
Finally, the letter addressed allegations that Iran missed negotiation opportunities in 2022, stating that these accusations disregard the realities of the discussions. Tehran reiterated its readiness to fully comply with the JCPOA, provided that other signatories honor their commitments and rectify past breaches.
The letter underscores Iran’s determination to protect its national interests and respond decisively to any further provocations or unjust measures by Western nations.
