Damascus(IP)- Emphasizing the consolidation and strengthening of economic relations between Iran and Syria, Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development announced the talks between the officials of the two countries to expand economic relations in the maritime and rail sectors, to facilitate bank transactions and to reduce free trade tariffs.

Iran PressMiddle East: Iran-Syria talks to expand relations According to Iran press news agency, Mehrdad Bazrpash arrived in Syria this morning heading a high-level delegation and was welcomed by Mohammad Samer al-Khalil the head of the Iran-Syria Joint Commission.

Talking to reporters, he said about the goals of his two-day trip:b"In this trip, as the head of the Iran Joint Commission, the aim is to advance the agreements that were made in the past and to lay the groundwork for new agreements in various fields."

The Minister of Roads and Urban Development continued: "There are high relations between the two countries, and Iran and Syria are at the highest level of political relations, but in the economic field, there is a lot of opportunity to develop relations, and we are trying to expand economic relations."

The head of the Iran-Syria joint commission added: "The most important issues that we are following in the joint commission today and tomorrow include the sea-oriented economy, which has good plans, as well as in the railway sector, the alliance between Iran, Iraq and Syria and the revival and development of railway lines in the areas of cargo and passenger transit have been addressed.

This route has been between three countries in the past, but during the previous years, due to the wars and problems that have been imposed on Syria, some parts of the railway lines have been destroyed, which needs to be repaired and rehabilitated, which is one of the serious issues discussed in this trip.

Bazrpash mentioned the reduction of the free trade tariff between the two countries as one of the other axes that the two countries are investigating and emphasizing in its advancement.
