TEHRAN (IP) — Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced that the next round of indirect nuclear talks with the United States, originally set for May 3 in Rome, has been postponed following a proposal by Oman’s foreign minister.

Why it matters:

The diplomatic process is aimed at lifting sanctions and easing economic pressure on Iran.

The big picture:

Oman has frequently served as a backchannel facilitator between Tehran and Washington.

The Rome meeting was expected to be part of renewed indirect engagement between the two countries after a long diplomatic freeze.

What he's saying:

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed the postponement and emphasized Iran’s ongoing commitment to diplomacy:

“The rescheduling of the talks was proposed by the Omani Foreign Minister.”

“Iran remains determined to pursue diplomacy to secure its legal rights, end sanctions, and alleviate economic pressure affecting the daily lives of Iranian citizens.”
