Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Minister and the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), in a telephone conversation, discussed the process of cooperation and the upcoming meeting of the organization.

Iran PressIran News: In his conversation with SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming on Friday, Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian appreciated Zhang's effort to complete the full membership process of Iran in the SCO and announced Tehran's readiness to attend the organization's upcoming meeting.

Iran's final membership will provide a new capacity to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Amir-Abdollahian told the SCO head.

The top Iranian diplomat also announced the official introduction of the Iranian national coordinator to the SCO’s secretariat next week.

Zhang Ming, for his part, said the full membership of Iran will be officially declared in the next meeting of the SCO, with Iran enjoying all the rights related to the member countries of the organization as of July 4.

The Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization also said Iran will play an important role in advancing the goals of the SCO.

At the 22nd summit of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which Uzbekistan was hosting, the official full membership of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the organization was announced. The summit was held on Friday – September 16, 2022, in the city of Samarkand.
