Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman confirmed the country's mediation for the release of Thai prisoners from Hamas following the request of Thailand's authorities from Tehran.

Iran Press/Iran news: During his recent visit to Qatar and in response to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand regarding Iran's assistance for the release of Thai prisoners in Gaza, Iranian Foreign Minister referring to his talks with Hamas officials, assured that as soon as the field conditions are met, this request will be addressed and action will be taken to release the foreign citizens.

Regarding the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the release of Thai prisoners, the spokesman of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Kanaani, said: "Since the first week of Israeli aggression against Gaza and following the request of the Thai authorities via telephone conversation and a meeting between Iranian and Thai Foreign Minister in Doha, the issue of releasing Thai prisoners was jointly pursued by Iran and Qatar.

Kanaani added: "The namelist of  Thai prisoners was given to Hamas officials to investigate and address the issue from a humanitarian perspective."

Iranian senior diplomat also said: "This request was taken into consideration by Hamas officials, and with the establishment of a temporary ceasefire, a number of Thai prisoners were released."

The ceasefire in Gaza started yesterday Friday with the agreement of Hamas and the Israeli regime. One of the main clauses of this agreement is the release of 50 prisoners held by Hamas and 150 prisoners held by the Zionist regime. 219
