Iran's Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) departed for Tehran after paying a one-day visit to Iraq's capital on Sunday.

Iran Press/Middle East: During this one-day trip, Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani met and held talks with the President of Iraq Barham Salih, Iraqi Caretaker Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi, Iraqi National Security Advisor Falih Fayyadh, and Iraq's intelligence chief Mustafa al-Kazimi. 

The high-ranked officials discussed a wide range of political, economic and security topics of interest of the two countries.

Ali Shamkhani also met with leaders of Iraq's main political currents, including Nouri al-Maliki, Haider al-Abadi, Hadi al-Ameri and Sayyid Ammar Hakim.

In the meetings, Iran's Secretary of Supreme National Security Council emphasized Tehran's support for the speedy deployment of a people-backed government in Iraq.

Shamkhani also highlighted the need to expand cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad in various fields, as well as Iran's readiness to transfer experiences in the fight against the Coronavirus.
