Middle East (IP): Iran's Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) met with the President of Iraq Barham Salih on Sunday in Baghdad, saying, "The Iraqi people recognize their interests well and do not need the presence of aliens."

Iran Press/Middle East: Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani highlighted the principled position of the Islamic Republic of Iran in support of the sovereignty, independence and will of the Iraqi people in all areas, expressing the hope that with the participation of the top political groups and ethnic and religious factions, the Iraqi government would take over the affairs of the Iraqi people.

According to Iran Press, the Iraqi President, on his part, referred to the friendly relations of the two countries in various fields, adding: "The people of Iraq are always grateful to the Iranian government and nation." 

Barham Salih emphasized the need to expand bilateral relations and strengthen cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad in various fields, especially in the fight against terrorism and extremism, adding that the depth of the historical relations and the interests of the two countries have provided the way forward to the desired point. 

The President of Iraq also referred to the epic of Arbaeen Hosseini (AS), the pilgrimage of more than three million Iranians, and welcoming of the Iraqi people, saying: "The unity and brotherhood of the two countries' nations during great Arbaeen procession demonstrate the deep bond between them and destroy the plots of the malicious." 

The two officials also emphasized the need for joint Iranian-Iraqi cooperation in the fight against the Coronavirus.

The secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani also has met with Iraqi Caretaker Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi, Iraqi National Security Advisor Falih Fayyadh, and Iraq's intelligence chief Mustafa al-Kazmi during his visit to Baghdad. 212/ 104
