Iran's Minister of Intelligence said on Thursday that the ministry's secret agents have foiled an attempt to assassinate several clerics, judges, and IRGC forces.

Iran PressIran news: "The sinister plan was supposed to be carried out on Saturday, 30 September 2023, so that different parties would blame each other and fuel ethnic and religious differences," Esmail Khatib was speaking in a gathering of relevant officials of Iran's elections in Mashhad city, the capital of Razavi Khorasan Province.

"Enemies seek to make Iran's eastern borders unsafe, and it is necessary for Shia and Sunni scholars and officials to be vigilant," he emphasized.

The 12th round of parliamentary elections in Iran is slated for March 1, 2024, four years since the last parliamentary vote, with 290 seats up for grabs.
