Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei condemned the U.S. and British military aggression against Yemen.

Why it matters:

The U.S. and British military actions in Yemen have not only heightened tensions in the region but also underscored the involvement of global powers in exacerbating crises in the West Asian region.

The big picture:

Since last night (Saturday), American and British military forces have conducted bombing operations in the provinces of Sana'a, Sa'ada, Dhamar, and Al-Bayda in Yemen. According to the report, 31 civilians were killed in the attacks.

What he's saying:

Esmail Baqaei condemned the U.S. and British military actions, emphasizing that they violate the UN Charter, international law's prohibition of force, and the principles of territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

Baqaei stressed the duty of the UN and the Security Council to address violations and threats to international peace and security.

Baqaei linked the U.S.-British military aggression in Yemen to their ongoing support for the oppression of Palestinians and the suppression of solidarity with their legitimate rights.

Iranian senior diplomat added: "The root of insecurity in the West Asian region is the continued killing and occupation in occupied Palestine, which has continued with the full support of the United States, the U.K., and some other Western countries, and has put regional and international peace and security at unprecedented risk."
