Tehran (IP) - The Spokesman of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Resolution 2722 is a US-fabricated act under the pretext of protecting navigation in the Red Sea to fulfill the US political interests in support of the Israeli war on Gaza.

Iran PressIran news:  The Spokesman of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday that the US still insists on providing political, military, international, and diplomatic support for the Israeli regime instead of taking action to stop the Israeli war on Gaza.

Nasser Kanaani referred to the Israeli regime's war on Gaza for more than 3 months and the destruction of health and urban infrastructure and said:

"The US prevention of adopting a resolution in the Security Council to stop the war on Gaza practically prevents the implementation of the UNSC's tasks in maintaining international peace and security and is against the international community's demand to end the massacre of Palestinians and to establish a ceasefire."

He noted that the US put pressure on the UNSC regardless of the root of the tensions in the region to adopt a resolution for the protection of free navigation rights, but its main goal is to legitimize its self-proclaimed maritime coalition to prolong the Israeli war on Gaza.

Kanaani stressed that Iran warned against any US action that would bring the region to the brink of war and called on the UNSC to fulfill its responsibilities to address the causes of the current tension in the Red Sea.

The spokesman of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the UNSC to take immediate measures to stop the Israeli genocide in Gaza and ensure the fast and secure entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza.  United Nations Security Council Resolution 2722 was adopted on 10 January 2024. According to the resolution, the Security Council voted for Yemen to immediately stop merchant and commercial vessel attacks.

During recent weeks, the Yemeni Army has been targeting or arresting any vessel forwarding to the Israeli-occupied territories to provide support for the regime's war on Gaza.
