Tehran (IP)- Judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaeili told a news conference today: "In the last 18 months during the term of Judiciary Chief in office, about 40,000 inmates have been pardoned, half of whom have been released from prison, and the other half have had their sentences reduced."

Iran PressIran news: The spokesman for the judiciary said that the Leader agreed with the head of the judiciary's proposal to pardon and commute the sentences of 3,780 convicts.

He noted: 2301 prisoners were released; 157 convicts with security conviction were pardoned on charges of propaganda against the Islamic system, conspiracy, and collusion in the riots of 2017, 2018, and 2019 and the years before, and 16 citizens of Islamic countries were pardoned.

Esmaeili said: "In our country, the number of patients with coronavirus and deaths has increased in recent weeks. Overcoming this crisis requires decisive decisions, cooperation, coordination of all executive bodies, public opinion persuasion, and people-centered cooperation."

The official stated that the judiciary, especially prosecutors across the country, consider themselves both partners and supporters of implementing the resolutions of the National Task Force for Fighting Coronavirus.

Esmaeili said: "These days, the people and the elites are witnessing that the transformation plans of the judiciary and the promises of the presidency one after another are being implemented and implemented."
