Damascus (IP) - Iranian top diplomat Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has met with President Bashar Al-Assad of Syria in the capital Damascus as part of the second leg of a regional tour after visiting Lebanon.

Iran Press/ West Asia: The meeting took place after Amir-Abdollahian, leading a political delegation, arrived in the Syrian capital earlier on Sunday.

The two officials discussed bilateral political and economic relations, as well as regional and international issues of concern, including the Israeli war on Gaza.

Amir-Abdollahian stated that Gaza is now considered the main issue not only at the regional level but also at the international level. He noted that Syria is on the front lines in supporting the Palestinian people and their cause. Al-Assad mentioned that the Israeli regime and the West are currently at an impasse over the war in Gaza, with Israeli escalation in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon being seen as a Western-led attempt to save the regime.

Al-Assad emphasized that they must stand alongside the Palestinian people to support them during times of conflict. He criticized the US stance towards ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza, stating that it threatens to expand conflict by providing lethal weapons to Israel and conducting attacks in various parts of the Middle East.

Overall, both leaders expressed their commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and addressing ongoing conflicts in the region.
