Geneva (IP) - Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met and held talks with his Venezuelan counterpart Yvan Gil Pinto amid the flurry of diplomatic meetings in the Swiss city of Geneva.

Iran PressIran news: Amir-Abdollahian is currently in Geneva, Switzerland to attend the 55th meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Iranian Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction with the promotion of bilateral ties, especially after the two meetings between the presidents of the two countries in Tehran and Caracas.

He underlined the 19 cooperation deals signed by the two countries, including the 20-year long-term cooperation, and stressed the need to follow up on the joint efforts to effectively put the agreements into practice.

Meanwhile, Amir-Abdollahian stated that the two countries need to forge stronger ties. He slammed the US interference in Venezuela's internal affairs, especially in the country's elections. He said Iran supports the Venezuelan people’s right to choose without foreign involvement.

Emphasizing the diverse opportunities for bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the Iranian foreign minister said that energy is a proper field for cooperation and noted the Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes the promotion of ties between various economic and commercial sectors of the two countries.

 Amir-Abdollahian also touched on the developments in Palestine and shed light on the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli regime’s move to displace Palestinians to neighboring countries, and the US support for the Israeli regime’s crimes. He said the international community should push for stronger moves to stop the war crimes and genocide against the Palestinian nation.

For this part, the Venezuelan foreign minister said he was pleased with the meeting and expressed satisfaction with the stepped-up bilateral ties.

He stated that his country is ready to promote its ties with Iran based on the 20-year cooperation deal and the full implementation of cooperation documents.

Pinto referred to the meetings of the presidents of the two countries and the ensuing agreements as “very important”, saying, “The path of cooperation between the two countries is paved better than before, and for Venezuela boosting economic cooperation between the two countries is in line with the common interests of the two nations.”

The Venezuelan foreign minister expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between the two countries in the international arena and called for stronger ties.

He also pointed to the two countries’ joint position on Palestine and stressed his country firmly demands an immediate end to the war against the Palestinians. He reiterated Venezuela's solidarity with the Palestinian people in resisting the occupation.

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed and exchanged views on some other issues of common interest in the bilateral and international domains.

The Iranian foreign minister invited his Venezuelan counterpart to visit Iran, and Pinto agreed to embark on the trip “at the right time.”
